47th Birthday of Adam Fischer.

Because Adam Fischer was born on September 9, he celebrates his birthday in Eisenstadt every year. Since he is very busy with concert or rehearsals, usually he does not have a party. However it was a little different in this year.

First his wife Doris arrived from Hamburg for a surprise celebration. In that afternoon, there was a rehearsal of the "Seven Last Word" with orchestra and chorus at the Kulturzentrum in Eisenstadt. During the intermission, the Orchestra made a champagne toast. Helmut Wildhaber the tenor sang Happy Birthday and then the pianist of the Budapest Chamber Chorus started playing the piano and the chorus sang the Hungarian birthday song. It was a nice and a little embarrassing day for Mr. Fischer.

By the way, after the rehearsal when Adam tried to clean the champagne glasses, since he was in a hurry, he broke 2 glasses. However, let's wipe off the debt since it was his birthday.

Interview with Hansgeorg Schmeiser

We had a chance to interview flutist Mr. Hansgeorg Schmeiser, who was the soloist of the"Concert for 2 Lire organizzate" on September 8. We asked him about his own activity and advice for the flute beginners.

"Currently I belong to the Vienna Volksoper orchestra, and I am one of the teaching staff of the Musikhochschule in Vienna. Since I have a strong relationship with the Japanese flute maker Muramatsu, I often give master classes in Japan. In 1994 together with Martin (Bramböck) who is the horn player of the Haydn Orchestra, we founded the wind ensemble `quintett.wien'. We had some concerts in England, Japan etc. I am one of only three people in Europe who has a flute made of platinum. Of course it is very expensive but it has a beautiful tone. It is more difficult to play than a regular flute. As the advice for beginners, play everyday scale or what ever it is, and enjoy playing. Some student sets very difficult objectives and practice very strictly, however the most important thing is you have a good time playing flute."

Mr. Schmeiser's "quintett.wien" have released their first CD. It contains Haydn's Divertimento in B flat major and Mozart "The Magic Flute" duets for flute and clarinet. It was ranked in the top 10 of the classical CD chart and is the biggest hit of the Nimbus Record history. (NI5479)
