Concerts - A lot of Jupiter symphonies  After the Metropolitan Opera, Adam Fischer gave about 15 concerts in Europe. His `Symphony of the year' was Mozart sym-phony No. 41 Jupite'.  He got the facsimile score and made the research very intensively.

At the end of April, Adam Fischer visited Italy and con-ducted the Orchestra dela Toscana.  The young violinist Vadim Repin played  a concerto.  There were four concerts at Carrara, Pisa, Bologna and Florence.  Most of the concerts were success-ful but there was an accident.  Soloist Repin did not show up at the first concert at Carrara.  Orchestra manager called everywhere to find Repin but in vain.  So, Adam and the orchestra decided to play the symphony first, but still soloist did not appear, then they performed the overture and made the audience go home.  Later they found out that Vadim Repin mixed up the name of the city and went to Ferrara  in stead of Carrara.

The next performance was the concert with the Haydn Or-chestra at Grafenegg in Austria.  Grafenegg is a small castle about 1 hour from Vienna.  The concert was a part of Saturday after-noon series.  Although it was in May, the weather was as beauti-ful and warm as summer.  The orchestra members took off their jackets but Adam Fischer conducted with tail coat dripping with sweat.
Haydn Farewell symphony is one of favorite performance of Haydn orchesra.  As usual in the fourth movement, musicians went out the stage one by one.  The next piece was Mozart piano concerto in C-major KV 503 with soloist Till Fellner.

After the long intermission, they played Jupiter symphony. This was a new piece for Haydn Orchestra but under the leader-ship of the concert master, Wolfgang Redik, they created beauti-ful Mozart world with modulated intonation.

The uncore  was also a new piece, serenade from Il matrimno Segreto by Csimarosa.  It is relatively an unknown piece but very humorous and effective for uncore.  As well as Figaro or Adagio from Farewell symphony, it will be a populer uncore number for Haydn Orchestra.

On June 3, Adam flew to Scandinavia and conducted the Helsinki Symphony Orchestra.  The program was Kodaly, Brahms and Strauss with the young violinist Mulova as soloist.

After the recording session with Haydn Orchestra, Adam went to Germany and performed at Mozart Festival with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. As well as the Jupiter symphony, they played a very funny piece of Leopold Mozart. It is called the Hunting Symphony.  The music describes the scene of the hunting with horn solos and sometimes timpani imitates the fire of a rifle. Although the Bamberg Symphony did not do it, in the original score there is the note by the composer himself that the orchestra must shout.  Also a real DOG must bark.
Adam Fischer likes this piece very much and he promised that if we can find the dog that can start and stop barking follow-ing the instruction (during 6 bars and repeat), he will play the full version.  If you know such a dog, please let us know.

Editorial Note

In the middle of the series of Aida performances at the Met, on March 16, there was a small fan club meeting at a famous steak restaurant in downtown Manhattan.  Mr. Robert Avery from London, Mr. and Mrs. Morawitz from Vienna, new members Dianne Behar from New York and Nick Mawer from England,  and fan club organizer Sayuri Oshima from Japan  enjoyed talking and the wonderful American food.

Soon we have International Haydntage in Eisenstadt and many mambers will go there.  Let us have a bigger meeting during the festival.  After the concert of September 17 please go the the restaurant Zum Eder at Hauptstraße in Eisenstadt.  All fan club members and Home Page readers are welcomed.
