Adam Fischer given Grand Haydn Award
Adam Fischer was awarded the Grand
Haydn Award of Burgenland, which is given by the Burgenland State to persons dedicated to
the research of Haydn. Following H.C.Robbins Landon and Prof.Georg Feder from the Haydn
Institute in Cologne, Adam Fischer is the first musician to win the award.
The ceremony took place during the final concert just after the
intermission. When Adam entering the stage for the performance, State counselor Mrs.
Prets announced the award and together with Mayer of Eisenstadt Alois Schwartz, presented
the certificate, a statue of Haydn and the relief of his autograph celebrating the 10
years of activity of Adam Fischer.
Recollections:
Adam Fischer was very happy about the award and went home in Hamburg
with the prize by airplane, however the statue and relief was so heavy and it was a little
problem for the flight. At first Adam was stopped by the security check and he must
explain what was in his bag. Finally airline took it at the gate because it is too heavy
and he must pay the extra charge for the overweight luggage.

The composer S. Thomas
The winner composer Stefan Thomas was born in Köln in 1968 and he had
studied at Musikhochschule Köln.
Haydnfestspile organized the composition competition autumn of '96 and the winning piece
was chosen on February of 1997. The composer looked happy that Adam Fischer
and Haydn Orchestra performed the world premier and praised some musicians such as, oboe,
clarinet, bassoon and double bass players.
He shared some interesting story about Adam Fischer that Adam had lost his score
in the airplane just before the premier. Also, when Mr. Thomas was invited to Adam
Fischer's house in Hamburg to discuss the music, Adam lost the key and they could not get
