'The Creation'  200th Anniversary Concert and Haydn Symphony Recording

The father of the Symphony, Joseph Haydn is also famous in the field of oratorio.  His masterpiece 'The Creation' celebrated the 200th  anniversary of its first performance. On 2 May, Adam Fischer and the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra performed it at Haydnsaal of the Esterhazy Castle at Eisenstadt.

The distinguished audience included descendants of many people connected with Haydn : Maria Theresa was represented by  Karl von Habsburg and the current owner of the Esterhazy Castle, Melinda Esterhazy, were invited to the concert and enjoyed the wonderful performance.

Without taking the day off, Adam and orchestra immediately began the recording of Haydn symphonies with Nimbus next day. They completed Symphony No. 72 - No. 81 this year.  All that are left a a few of  the twenties and 30-39.  The entire Symphonies are expected to be completed in the year 2000.

Zurich Opera New production of ‘Nina'

The center of Adam Fischer's activity, Opernhaus Zurich, hosts more than 10 new productions annually. Because of that, many star singers want to sing. On 15 of March, there was a premier performance of Paisiello's opera, 'Nina, O sia la pazza per amore' with Cecilia Bartoli conducted by Adam Fischer.

Paisiello was a composer of the18th century much admired by Mozart and who wrote almost 90 operas.  He was very popular once but these days, most of his operas are forgotten.  'Nina' is the story of young woman goes mad because her childhood playmate and fiancee was killed in a duel on the day of their wedding.  Cecilia Bartoli sang beautifully of course but not only that, she proved her ability as an actress.  Nearly all members of Zurich audience would admit that Bartoli's performance was memorable.

The production by Cesare Lievi sets the action in Paisiello's own time.  As usual Adam conducted very carefully and contributed much to the success of the opera.

'Nina' was played 9 times in March and April, however, even between the performances Adam did not take a day off.  He made  a radio recording with the Danish Radio Symphonietta and also conducted 'Linda di Chamounix' with Edita Gruberova at La Scala, deputizing for Roberto Abbado.  He is always busy and very active.
