From late July through August, Adam was also busy with another festival at Bayreuth. Adam Fischer, "The meister of soft tone" improved his beautiful pianissimo tone and lyrical interpretation with the perfect balance of orchestra.
The new heroine of Bayreuth, Evelyn Herlizius, was young and cute, a different type of Brunnhilde. Compared to her two predecessors in the same production, Herlizius is a better actress who can do tough action. In "Die Walkure" she acted the young daughter of Wotan. In "Siegfried", with the help of Adam Fischer's convincing lyrical music, she and her partner in the Munster Ring, Christian Franz were praised as "the dream pair". In "Gotterdammerung", however, she still needs to express emotion in singing, especially in the final aria.
During a free day in the third cycle, the Bayreuth Festival organized a charity concert for flood victims. Adam Fischer and the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra and some singers performed extraordinary highlights from "Tanhauser", "Lohengrin" and "Die Walkure". Regardless of the very short notice, the concert raised 97,000 Euro.

Highly regarded in Germany and Austria, the German magazine Opernwelt announced the result of the annual vote by 50 music critics in its 2002 Yearbook.
Adam Fischer got seven votes and won "Conductor of the year" because of the successful Ring at Bayreuth and the high quality premier of "Idomeneo" at Mannheim. Second position was Claudio Abbado because of "Parsifal" with Berlin Philharmonic! The opera house, orchestra and choir of the year were THE Stuttgart opera company.

At the moment, Adam Fischer does not have any recording contract, however, 2 new CDs are on sale from independent production company.
One is the live performance with the Mannheim Academy Orchestra in 2000. This includes Mozart's concert aria Ch'io mi scordi di te accompanied by Adam Fischer's piano, and Mahler Symphony No. 4. The other is a new opera by Nationaltheater Mannheim "Auf den Marmoklippen" composed by Battistelli. Both are very good recording quality and highly regarded by the press. Since they are self-production by Nationaltheater Mannheim, circulation may be limited near Mannheim or in Germany. If you are interested in, please contact the fan club. We will try to get more information.
In the next issue, we will report on the performances of "Der Rosenkavalier" in Vienna, "Don Carlo" in Zurich, and the Mozart week in Mannheim.Go back to Top of Newsletter
