Adam Fischer’s 2004/2005 Season

Adam’s contract with Mannheim was extended until next season but the number of performances is reduced. Instead, he has a lot of projects of guest appearance.

His new productions in Mannheim are two Mozart pieces. “Entführung aus dem Serail” on October 1st and “Ascanio in Alba” on December 5th. There are 2 more new production premieres with other opera companies. On December 3rd he conducts Mozart’s early opera “Lucio Silla” at the Netherlands National Opera (Amsterdam). In total 10 performances in December. With two new premieres and annual Mozart week in Mannheim, Adam will be very busy late November and December. Actually, he has performances everyday during 5th to 12th December, either at Mannheim or Amsterdam.

Another opera premier is Rossini’s “Il turco in Italia” at the Royal Opera House in London. Premiere is May 28th, 2005 and there are 7 performances in total. The famous diva Cecilia Bartoli sings the leading role. For Wagner fans, there is “Parsifal” revival at the Bavarian State Opera in March.

There are a lot of concert activities. In January, Adam appears on the podium of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra (11th and 12th), and then he and the Haydn Orchestra tour Switzerland. In March (9th to 13th) he conducts Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.

Haydn Orchestra released a new CD

After completion of Haydn entire symphonies, the Haydn Orchestra doesn’t have any recording contract at the moment. However thanks to recent technologies, it becomes easier to make own recordings. Last year Haydn Orchestra made live recording of the final matinee concert of the Haydntage.

This CD contains Beethoven Symphony No. 5 and Haydn Symphony No. 104 ‘London’. Although Adam Fischer conducts Beethoven a lot, he never made any official recording. Also since he has changed his interpretation of Haydn’s symphonies, the ‘London’ symphony is different from the existing recording. A very interesting CD.

It is sold at concerts of the Haydn Orchestra, or by online shop Extraplatte (http://www.extraplatte.at/). It costs €19.5 including 20% tax. For countries outside the EU, Extraplatte will ship without tax (€16.25) plus shipping charge around € 9. They accept major credit card. This site contains sample recording of all movements.

Editorial Note

Between April and June, Adam Fischer conducted many concert with various orchestras. Most important concert was of course with Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. But performances with other orchestras were also very successful. In the past few years, his activities were focused on Operas. Since Mannheim appointment will be reduced, there may be more concerts in the near future.

Summer means the Bayreuth Festival. After that, the annual International Haydntage. The theme of this year is “Bach and Haydn”. During the Haydntage, fan club members and festivalregulars gather at the restaurant “Zum Eder” after the performance. Sometimes Adam Fischer joins. If you have a plan to visit, please contact the fan club, so we can arrange something.
