New CD by Haydn Orchestra

After the completion of Haydn entire symphony recordings, Adam Fischer and Haydn Orchestra make some live recording. Last year they recorded the Haydn Symphony No, 92 “Oxford”, No. 94 “Surprise” and “La fedelta premiata” overture. It was the live recording at the Stephaniensaal in Graz on September 20 and 21 last year.

The CD is released on the MDG label, which focuses on the natural acoustics of specially chosen concert halls. Because of the concert hall, there is more echo than normal studio CDs, but the music is wonderful. The interpretation is very different from the same symphonies recorded by Nimbus 16 years ago.

The booklet contains introductions to the works, the Haydn Orchestra and Adam in English, French and German.
This CD is widely available at international CD shops like HMV. CD number is MDG 901 1325-6.

Adam Fischer makes debut at Salzburg Festival

After 4 years of appearance at Bayreuth, Adam Fischer originally planned an opera festival in Eisenstadt this summer. Because of financial problem, the summer opera festival is cancelled. Instead, Adam will appear at the Salzburg Festival in August.

The program is “Cosi fan tutte”. This production was premiered last year under the baton of Phillipe Jordan. Adam Fischer took over the production after Jordan resigned. There are five performances on 12, 14, 18, 22 and 25 August.

Editorial Note

For the past three month Adam Fischer was busy in Berlin and Munich, the two largest cities in Germany. While Adam had close relations with the Bavarian State Opera since his debut, he has not appeared frequently in Berlin. His last performance at the Deutsche Oper goes back to the “Carmen” during 1978/79 season. Next season, he will conduct “Othello” at Berlin State Opera. After the big success at Bayreuth, now Adam Fischer may make more appearances in the capital city.

Next three month will be the Opera at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and the final appearances at Mannheim. We will report these big events in the next newsletter.
