Wagner Days in Budapest

When Adam Fischer becomes a Music Director of an orchestra, he starts the new project. In the past, he started Haydn Festival with Haydn Orchestra, Mahler Festival at Staatstheater Kassel, and Mozart week at Nationaltheater Mannheim. When he started the work with the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (sometimes called as Budapest Symphony Orchestra), he initiated “Wagner Days in Budapest”.

This project takes place at the new national concert hall, which is opened last year. They are planning Wagner production in semi-staged performance with world famous soloists.

This year is “Parsifal” on 10th and 17th June. Casts are Christian Franz (Parsifal), Matti Salminen (Gurnemanz), Günter von Kannen (Klingsor), Tomasz Konieczny (Amfortas), Kolos Kovats (Titurel), and Judith Nemeth (Kundry).

In 2007 they start Ring production. “Das Rheingold” is on 7th and 9th June. “Die Walküre” is on 8th and 10th June. “Siegfried” and ”Götterdämmerung” will be in 2008. Each premier is scheduled on 7th and 17th of June 2008. The first Ring cycle starts on 19th June, 2008. The production is planned to have the entire cycle in 4 days. Since June is the best season to visit Hungary. It would be ideal for busy tourlists.

Editorial Note

Editorial Note
This issue includes the sad new about the death of the Haydn Orchestra member. The Haydn Orchestra was founded in 1987. During these 19 years, the orchestra lost several colleagues. Dr. Wilhelm Hübner. (Violin), Dr. Gustav Swoboda (violin), Bela Szekeres (trumpet), Janos Pap (violin), and Andras Kiss (violin). Now we have to add a new name. We pray for them all.

Following the great success of “The Flying Dutchman”, Adam Fischer conducted “Parsifal” in Munich. Since February state theatres in Germany are in a long period of strikes. Due to the disagreement between state and the labor union, several performances are simplified or even cancelled. Adam could not have enough stage rehearsals because nobody could build the stage. Fortunately, the new production was high priority and there was no cancellation. But one performance of “Parsifal” was changed to concert performance. The strike still continues. If you have a plan to visit German theatres, please be aware of the change.

Next issue, we are going to report the first “Wagner Days in Budapest”, and the new production of “Aida” in Zurich.
