Adam Fischer and Haydn Orchestra win Echo Award

Adam Fischer receiving Echo Award TrophyThere are two major awards in the recording industry. The Grammy Award is presented by the US recording academy, while the Echo Awards is given by the German Recording Academy. Not only classical music, both awards include pop music and are highly regarded in the industry.

The CD Adam and the orchestra recorded in 2004, “Symphony No. 92 and 94 Overture La fedelta premiata “ won the Echo Prize “Best surround recording”.

This CD was recorded at the Stefaniensaal in Graz. Just after the Haydntage 2004, Adam Fischer and the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra visited Graz and gave two concerts. The rehearsal and the concerts were recorded and released last year by MDG, Musikproduktion Dabringhaus und Grimm.

This award is for outstanding interpretation, performance and the high quality of surrounding recording. Not only for the orchestra, but also for the recording producer, it is a big honour. Their collaboration continues and they recorded several symphonies during the Haydntage in the Haydnsaal.

Adam Fischer’s New Recordings

At the moment there are four projects of recording by Adam Fischer. Following the successful Mozart Opera series, the Danish Radio Sinfonietta started the Mozart entire symphonies with Adam Fischer. They have completed symphonies No.15, 16 and 17.

Last year the Haydn Orchestra recorded Haydn symphonies No. 88 and 101, but it was too short for one CD. This year they recorded additional overtures and symphonies. The new CD is currently in editing.

There are two more recording projects. Adam Fischer has conducted the small ensemble La Scintilla to accompany Cecilia Bartoli. The recording is finished but a release date has not yet been announced. The repertoire is a surprise and has not yet been revealed.

The last project is Bartók violin concertos and Viola concerto with Shlomo Mintz. Adam Fischer will conduct the London Philharmonic Orchestra. This project has just begun.

Many of them will be released next year. We hope all CDs will be available worldwide.

Editorial Note

This year’s Haydntage finished not only with a high quality performance, but also the Echo Awards. Since the entire symphonies recorded by Nimbus took 14 years, Adam’s interpretation has changed and the orchestra is better than ever. They want to record some of the London symphonies again. The Echo Award is a strong encouragement. The next recording, including Symphonies No. 88 and No. 97 will be released soon.

In the next issue we are going to report on the new production of “The Cunning Little Vixen” at Zürich, the concert of the Bamberg Symphony and the Danish Royal Opera “Don Giovanni”
