Adam Fischer assumed the GMD position of the Hungarian State Opera

Over the past few years the Hungarian State Opera has faced many challenges, not least a reduced budget. Now the government wants to revive the State Opera as an important tourist attraction. They asked some of big opera managers including Mr. Holender and Mr. Mortier. Both recommended Adam Fischer.

Although he is one of world-famous opera conductors, Adam Fischer had conducted the Hungarian State Opera only once. When he was a boy, he lived just in front of the opera house and sang on the stage. Now he was appointed to the GMD of one of the most beautiful opera house in the world.

Although the detailed terms are not yet agreed, since there is no GMD at the moment, he assumed the position on 1st June, 2007. Of course Adam Fischer has a lot of commitment with other organizations. So he doesn’t have a fixed schedule at the Hungarian State Opera yet, but it will be a major venue for him in future.

Editorial Note

There a lot of news about Adam Fischer recently, for example several important CD and DVD releases and most importantly, new appointment of Hungarian State Opera House. There is not enough space to write about Hary Janos production in Vienna, or Bayreuth Festival “Parsifal”. We may be able to report some of these in the next issue, and the Haydntage 2007.
