Rainer Dierich’s Matinee in Kassel

Rainer Dierich's MatineeOne of the supporters of culture in Hessen, Mr. Rainer Dierich passed away this August. He was one of the initiators of the Mahler Fest in Kassel. Adam Fischer and musicians of the State Theatre Kassel Orchestra gathered and had a concert together for his memory on 21st of October at the Ballhaus in the Wilhelmshöhe castle, Kassel.

Adam Fischer was GMD of the state theatre Kassel in 1987-1992. Mr. Dierich was one of strong supporter of the theatre. Since the composer Mahler was also GMD of Kassel, he and Adam worked very hard to start the Mahler Fest Kassel. They formed the Gustav Mahler Festival Orchestra with musicians not only from Kassel, but also from Budapest, Vienna or Berlin. The festival took place in ’89, ’91; and ’95.

Adam and the orchestra performed Bach Orchestra Suite No.2, Handel Arias from “Ariodante” and “Guilio Cesare”, and Haydn Symphony No. 49 “La Passion” at the matinee.

Editorial Note

Internationale Haydntage 2007 was finished with a big success. Next year will be the 20th of the festival and at last 2009 will be the 200th memorial year since Haydn’s death. Haydn Festspiele is already started planning the project. There will be some concerts around Haydn’s death day in May, and the annual Haydntage will be extended until the end of September. There will be many interesting performances by Adam Fischer and the Haydn Orchestra. We will report it when the plan is revealed.

Another important project in 2008, Budapest Wagner Days 2008 performances are formally announced by the organizer. At the same time, tickets are on sale now. Since this is very rare occasion to see the Ring cycle only in four days, it is getting the attention of Wagnerians all over the world. If you want to know more about “Budapest Wagner Days 2008”, please check the site of Palace of Arts (www.mupa.hu). It is possible to by tickets from overseas through internet. Our friends at Habsburg Heritage Cultural Tours have a package tour to the Budapest Ring 2008 as well the 2008 Haydntage at much less than half the price of their competitors. Check it out at www.habsburgheritage.com
