Editorial Note

Joseph Haydn has not exactly been a popular composer other thanin the UK. Although he produced many masterpieces, only a few of them were performed frequently. But the situation is very different this year. Adam Fischer had already conducted two new productions of Haydn’s operas.

Austria cerebrates the memorial composer Haydn. The Konzerthaus in Vienna plans a series of concerts including “The return of Tobias” by the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra. Riccardo Muti and the Vienna Philharmonic played the orchestral version of “The seven last word” at the Theater and der Wien, Vienna.

In Eisenstadt, the official memorial season started on the 31st of March. Nikolaus Harnoncourt and the Concentus Musicus performed Haydn symphonies at Esterhazy castle.

The highlight of the Haydn Year is 200th Death Day on 31st May. “The Creation” by Adam Fischer and Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra will be live on TV by ORF1. The same evening there will be a concert in Fertöd. We will report detail of the memorial event in the next issue.
